Context
The art piece by artist Alessia Sanna uses data on orbital objects to create a 2.5-meter sphere filled with a small cube for each of the 34,679 objects (as of 2023).
Through these cubes, the same data is animated, fading into the sculpture in accurate chronological order, gradually illuminating the structure.
When the data reaches the year 2023, the visualization transitions into an extrapolation scenario, estimating the impact of the next 42,000 planned satellite launches by SpaceX.
This will ultimately illustrate a phenomenon known as “Kessler’s Syndrome,” which describes the collapse of orbital technology when a critical number of objects occupy the same orbits.
